  • Ethiopia’s gov’t spokesman decried the election of Trump to lead the U.S

Ethiopia’s newly sworn in government spokesman, Negeri Lencho, said the election of Donald Trump is not good both for his country and for the African continent as a whole and has described him as ‘an extremely neo- liberalist.’ According to him, Trump is ‘always inward looking’ with less care for the rest of the world.

“I don’t think the election of Trump will benefit Africa,” Negeri said adding that he was wishing Secretary Hillary Clinton could win the 2016 US election. “First, he is only interested in trade deals that only benefit the United States. Second, his immigration policy could affect thousands of Ethiopians who live in the United States. And finally, his political tactics are dangerous.”

According to Negeri, Tump may change some of his hard- line policies once he occupies the White House in January. He has described the current U.S- Ethiopian relations as ‘very good’ and ‘longstanding.’

  • San Jose Taxi Driver Honored with International Award for Hard Work

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) — A Bay Area man just learned he’s winning an international award for his work as a taxi driver.

Enders Abdu left Ethiopia to find the “American Dream.”

“I came to this country in 1998 and after two years I started driving a taxi,” he said.

His day starts out like any other driver, getting his cab ready for the road. But that’s about where the similarities end.

While many drivers wait for a call from dispatch, Abdu already knows his schedule. “At 6:55 I’m going to pick up my first kid and I have three kids,” he said.

And they’re the same kids every day. They are kids with special needs who go to school far from home. “The kids have to feel comfortable, so you have to have the type of driver that makes that child feel comfortable,” Yellow Checker Cab operations Dave Logan said.

San Jose’s Yellow Checker Cab Company recommended Abdu to the schools where they have a contract to transport kids.

  • Eritrean air force pilots defect to Ethiopia with military plane

Eritrean air force pilots, named Mebrahtu Tesfamariam and Afework fissehaye, have defected on Wednesday by flying their military aircraft Zlin-143-102 to Ethiopia’s northern city, Mekelle, sources disclosed to Awramba times.

This is not the first time for Eritrean air force members to defect to the neighboring nations.

In 2012, two Eritrean military pilots secretly flew President Isaias Afewerki’s plane to Saudi Arabia where they sought political asylum. A year after this incident, three other members of the Eritrean air force have defected with their fighter jet to Saudi Arabia. In April the same year, another female Eritrean air force pilot sent by the regime to retrieve the stolen jet from Saudi Arabia herself was defected.

As no Eritrean pilot has yet made his route to Ethiopia, the pilots who defected to Ethiopia today are the first ever Eritrean air force members to make the neighboring Ethiopia a destination of their defection.
